VistaPrint's business cards are fine but from what we hear, VistaPrint has a nasty habit of herding their customers. The company says it's just not so. Is a fraud from vistaprint?

I have no problems with Vista Print's products. I have ordered business cards and brochures. The problem I do have is this: They add items to my "shopping cart" and include them in my total--that I did not order and do not want. It takes a long time to figure out how to "delete" the unwanted items, and if I am not careful, I end up ordering magazines or other promotional items that I do not want. Vista Print should allow customers to easily choose extras or promotional products without automatically placing them on the order without explicit permission. It's like, "We will go ahead and sell it to you unless you catch us and make us stop." I will stop using Vista Print unless they stop this practice. I'd rather pay more somewhere else than deal with it. I use Vista Print because of the convenience, not the price. When they make it inconvenient, I will go away. Get rid of the magazines and junk, or make it easy to avoid them.

Por mi parte no he tenido ningún problema con vistaprint pero hace mes y medio realicé dos pedidos gratis a vistaprint, un sello de caucho y unas tarjetas de visita. Cual es mi sorpresa que me ha llegado solo las tarjetas de visita que pedi 10 dias despues que el sello de caucho.
Me pongo a buscar un telefono en la web y no hay nada que hacer. De todas formas les he enviado un mail, a ver que me contestan.

US solar industry is growing

The US solar energy industry has become the latest renewable energy sector to report impressive growth figures for 2009, further underlining the extent to which clean tech industries have defied the economic downturn.

According to new figures from the Solar Energies Industry Association (SEIA) released yesterday as part of the trade association's annual report, the amount of installed solar capacity in the US grew 37 per cent last year to 2,108MW.

Solar industry revenue similarly grew 36 per cent over 2008 to $4bn (£2.6bn), driven by strong demand in the utility-scale and residential sectors, state and federal policies incentives and declining solar panel prices.

The report also said that the sector had enjoyed a strong start to 2010 with more than 46MW of solar capacity having come online by early February as a result of new grants released as part of the US stimulus package.

Industry analysts expect further growth across the photovoltaic industry this year as developers rush to begin construction work on projects before the Treasury Grant Program expires at the end of the year.

Meanwhile, thousands of jobs are expected to be created after more than $600m in manufacturing tax credits were awarded to solar equipment producers, allowing more than $2bn of investment in new and upgraded factories, according to the report.

"When the president looks back at how stimulus dollars were invested, he's going to see that solar was one of the best returns on investments in 2009 for the American taxpayers," said Rhone Resch, SEIA president and chief executive.

In addition to government spending, the industry was also bolstered by rising levels of private investment, including a total $1.4bn of venture capital backing during 2009.

The success of the burgeoning solar market is being mirrored across much of the US renewable energy sector as clean tech firms continue to resist the drag of the recession.

Just this week the US Geothermal Energy Association published its annual report showing that the number of projects under development rose 26 per cent during 2009, while the American Wind Energy Association recently reported that the sector delivered a record-breaking 10,000MW of new capacity during 2009.

The Ricote Valley starts at the southern gateway, which is 23km from the capital Murcia. The eight towns (from south to north – Archena, Villanueva del Río Segura, Ulea, Ojós, Ricote, Blanca, Abarán and Cieza) in the valley straddle or sit along side the River Segura. In total the stretch is only 20km, a small portion of one of Spain’s major rivers. It starts at Santiago Pontones (province of Jaén) in the Segura Mountains, passes Calasparra, Murcia, Orihuela, Rojales and ends in the Mediterranean Sea near Guardamar del Segura in the province of Alicante, a course of 325km.

The alluvial plain is called the Vega del Segura and is a very productive agricultural region growing a wide variety of fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Much water is drawn off the Segura and its major tributary, the Guadalentín (Sangonera), to irrigate adjacent huertas (orchards), especially on the Murcia Plain.
Irrigation in the valley has been of paramount importance, as shown by the number of remaining waterwheels in various degrees of conservation. There are 19, but the number of associated mills has not been as fortunate, although there are some plans to restore several of them.

The most striking and attractive feature of the valley is the contrast between the lush green of the land around the river and the dry, stark and rugged mountains which envelop the area.
The whole valley has references to the Morisco Moors, who were forced to convert to Christianity, and it was here that the last Moors in the Levant region lived until their final expulsion by Philip II in the early 17th century. The impact devastated the area.

In 1285 Don Sancho IV donated the whole Ricote Valley to the Order of Santiago, with the exception of Archena. This town belonged to the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, principally because of the Balneario and its curative powers.
The Order of Santiago was a religious and military order founded on 29th July 1170, during the reign of León Fernando II. It owes its name to the patron saint of Spain (St James). A menudo solemos leer en prensa como salen nuevas empresas buscando inversores. Está el caso cercano de Nueva Rumasa y me ha chocado ver una empresa del sector de las energías renovables pidiendo inversores.

El anuncio lo ví ayer en el diario el país y según entiendo compras un generador fotovoltaico con seguidor solar a dos ejes de 9,9 KW nominales por 55.000 euros + IVA.

Por el momento, este tipo de inversiones se escapa de mis posibilidades. Pero me gusta que existan este tipo de productos en el mercado.

La planta donde se ubican los aerogeneradores está situada en Cáceres.

El cartel promocional antiguo dice así:

La compañía Albiasa Solar, formada por empresarios e inversores vascos, se encuentra actualmente promoviendo la instalación de una planta fotovoltaica en la provincia de Cáceres en la que tiene previsto desarrollar una inversión de más de 60 millones de euros. El otro día viendo la televisión ví un documental donde se relataba como la empresa española Acciona estaba construyendo una central solar en Nevada que podía alimentar las noches luminosas de Las vegas.

Leo en la web de acciona lo siguiente:

En 2007 se conectó a red la mayor central de este tipo instalada en el mundo en los últimos 18 años -Nevada Solar One, de 64 MW, en el desierto de Nevada (EEUU)-, una central con tecnología propia de cilindros parabólicos que ha servido de base para el posicionamiento de la compañía en el sector. Supuso una inversión de 250 millones de dólares.

Me parece como si me hubieran timado. Cuando ve un documental sobre tecnología punta desea ver algo actual no algo de hace dos años. Curiosamente las cosas que explicaban en el documental como tecnología punta son prácticamente las mismas que cuando iba a la universidad a finales de los 90.

Cuenta con una una superficie total de 418.515 m2, equivalente a casi 70 campos de fútbol. Su sistema está formado por 100.000 paneles solares y 200 instalaciones que desarrollan una potencia eléctrica de 20 megawatios, con una producción anual de 30.200 megawatios hora de electricidad, correspondientes al consumo energético medio de unos 12.000 hogares. Es una iniciativa de un consorcio de empresas encabezado por la firma alemana City Solar, y contará con diez profesionales para su mantenimiento. En total, la inversión para la realización de este proyecto será de 120 millones de euros y está previsto que funciona a pleno rendimiento desde el 2007.

La planta está destinada a inversores diferentes, entre las que se encuentran empresas locales como Gesfesa Energía y Eolia Mistral de Inversiones.

Calentando la piscina

Ya he tapado mi piscina pero la verdad es que todavía tengo ganas de bañarme. para el próximo año estoy pensando en realizar un proyecto para calentar la piscina.

Por un lado el uso de Paneles solares térmicos realizados con algún tipo de tubo de polipropileno y ubicados en los techos de la terraza o de la casa proporcionarán suficiente agua caliente para el otoño y primavera.

Por otro lado también me gustaría montar un sistema de aprovechamiento de la energía eólica que aproveche vientos superiores a los 2 metros po segundo. Se trataría de muy pequeños aerogeneradores que podrían calentar un depósito de agua. Este depósito se mezclaría con el resto de la piscina cuando se pusiera en marcha la bomba de filtración de la piscina.

Con ámbos sistemas en marcha y con una buena cubierta de la piscina espero poder tener una piscina climatizada en 2010.

Pero como pensé en este concurso como un juego y no una competición en toda regla en la que debiera sacar todo el jugo a mi profesionalidad no lo llegué a poner en práctica.Como anécdotas han habido varias:- Algún intercambio de enlaces defectuoso.- uno que me encontró desde una web que detecta contenido copiado ('http://www.google.ch/search?q=eurodipity&hl=en')... reconozco que lo copié de algún sitio.- uno que me puso 5 enlaces en una web mia posicionando a ~~hhhhhhhh~~ o algo así...En este caso lo curioso es que el tipo/a era de argentina y había pasado a las 3 de la mañana ( hora de españa) buscando algo para su blog para un país y volvió a pasar a las 4 de la mañana buscando otra cosa para su blog `participante de otro país, comentando en la misma página varias veces para todos los países en los que participaba... hay que fijarse un poquito más...Como en otros concursos seo no suele haber páginas interesantes. Uno de los males de este país es la baja educación musical que existe. Sobretodo si la comparamos con Inglaterra. Un país en dónde la música es mucho más que una industria.

Inglaterra siempre ha sido motor de tendencias culturales y sobretodo musicales. De sus ciudades salieron grupos como Sex pistols, The Clash, The Who, Oasis, Blur, Jesus and Mary Chain, Motorhead,Madness, Joy Division y muchos otros más.

Con la masiva afluencia de turistas británicos a nuestras costas y sobretodo a la ciudad de Benidorm. Hace unos años se dió en llamar el efecto Benidorm a un curioso fenómeno que sucedía en las islas. Las canciones del momento llegan a España unos 3 o 4 meses más tarde que a Inglaterra. Los turistas ingleses que llegaban a Benidorm por millares se ponían a escuchar éxitos que sonaban en su país hacía unos meses. Cuando regresaban a su tierra, pedían al dj de turno que pusiera ese tema ~~antiguo~~ de hace unos meses que acababa de escuchar en Benidorm. Pobres djs... Así surgía una especiede revival de algunas canciones éxitosas en Benidorm que volvían a colocarse en las listas de éxitos británicos cuando ya estaban en declive.

Parece ser que nuestra aportación a la música inglesa son esos revival.

De vez en cuando es bueno revisar si los enlaces que has intercambiado siguen estando por la red. He leído alguna vez que muchos seos intercambian y después de pasado un tiempo quitan los enlaces. Desde luego la reputación del seo que realiza este tipo de prácticas cae en picado porque en cuanto es detectado aparece su nombre en foros y demás herramientas del ramo.

De los cinco enlaces que he intercambiado ( si, ya sé que son muy pocos) hay dos que fallan.
Uno se trata de hbu.es y da un error. Así que seguramente no será ninguna práctica malintencionada ( si el error dura mucho tiempo empezaré a pensar lo contrario). El otro caso es ... Lo he comprobado y es que al parecer no quiere intercambio( aunque juraría que me lo ha borrado por le ha salido de ~~los huevos~~). Ya que le envié un correo el 26 de junio y todavía no me ha contestado... así que enlace fuera y a otra cosa.

Me quedo sólo con 4 enlaces. Muy pocos. Esta semana intentaré socializarme más e intercambiar más enlaces. Mi eurodipity me lo agradecerá.

Más de un eurodipity se preguntará si ir de vacaciones a Benidorm o no ir. El modelo urbanístico de Benidorm es una de sus ventajas y también de sus defectos. La ciudad tira hacia arriba y está llena de grandes edificios. desde el punto de vista ecológico es mucho mejor así. Si los humanos vivimos hacinados en pisos de elevada altura se canaliza mucho mejor todos los servicios a los que estamos acostumbrados y hay menos pérdidas. Las canalizaciones de agua, gas, teléfono... todo cuesta menos con edificios altos .

El otro modelo urbanístico sería el horizontal. El de adosados o casas con jardín. No hace falta decir que el consumo de agua es enormemente mayor con este modelo.

El único problema del modelo vertical de turismo es para el propio turista. No es lo más bonito que hay. Pero quizás, si es más económico.

Volviendo al tema de las semejanzas entre California y Benidorm. La calidad de los bikinis que encontramos en las playas de Benidorm es excelente. No en balde Benidorm fue uno de los primeros lugares en España en el que se podían ver bikinis. Ya sabéis la historia tan manida del turismo sueco tan moderno y por la que el antiguo alcalde de Benidorm Pedro Zaragoza estuvo a punto de ser excomulgado en 4 ocasiones. Me imagino el curita de turno pensando 'esta vez si que te excomulgo ~~so guarro~~'.
Pedro zaragoza se salvo de la excomunión por los pelos. Pero los bikinis consiguieron verse en las playas de Benidorm y gracias a ello llego la apertura al turismo europeo del que todavía se vive en Benidorm.

Gracias Pedro, mas de un eurodipity te sigue agradeceindo lo que hiciste por el país.

Su clima suave en invierno y su sol abrasador en verano hace que la incipiente tercera edad que se avecina consiga retrasarse unos añitos más. Ni que decir tiene que el cima de Benidorm es mucho más benigno y sobretodo una cosa: en Benidorm no hay huracanes.

Hay que convencer a Bill de que visite Benidorm. me apuesto lo que sea a que se siente como en Redmond. Seguro que todos los hoteles utilizan Windows. En la web oficial del concurso seoeurope.hoteles-costablanca.com les dió por poner una lista dee blogs de gente que más o menos se dedica al Seo. La lista va por países y obviamente la lista española es la más extensa.

En la lista cabe de todo, desde gente con pocas cosas interesantes que decir como ~~zxzxzxzxzx~~ ó ~~eurodipity~~ ( hay muchos de éstos pero hoy no tengo ganas de meterme con nadie). Hay un Telendro que me parece que no es el que todos conocemos. Y sobretodo mucha gente para llenar como ... en fín gente que de Seo no tiene nada aunque si de otras cosas.

Tengo que repasar los extranjeros. Seguro que al ser menos habrán depurado más.

Todos sabemos de los peligros de ir a la playa y que hay que estar prevenidos ante ellos. Os voy a poner una pequeña lista:

- el sol de Alicante. Solemos estar varias horas tumbados bajo su ~~protección~~... y hay que protegerse. Mínimo un factor 30. Al menos para mi.
- hay que vigilar las cosas que llevas a la playa cuando te bañes. Lo más normal es bañarse por turnos. Aunque a veces puede resultar un poco incomodo. Sobretodo si vaís en pareja.
- No hay que olvidarse las chanclas. La arena de la playa suele estar extremadamente caliente. Puede resultar muy ridículo volver a casa con la planta de los pies quemada.
- las medusas. Hay que tener los ojitos cuando te metas dentro del mar. Son como bolsas de plástico. de hecho muchas tortugas las confunden y se mueren atragantadas.

También hay otros tipos de objetos que no nos harán daño pero que solemos evitar:

- Las colillas en la playa. La gente es muy viciosa y lleva todas sus adicciones allá donde va.
- Preservativos en el agua. A partir de las 22 horas hay algunas playas de la costa levantina que se convierten en auténticos lupanares. A la mañana siguiente es muy fácil encontrarse con estos pequeños envases de látex.

Como recomendación final os cuento que siempre hay que estar ojeando la playa. Los peligros pueden venir sin avisar. Sería muy raro ver un elefante en la playa pero no tanto ver un tiburón, un motorista de agua borracho o algún quinqui esperando su momento.

Me da que el caracter festero de la ciudad hubiera sido del agrado del rockero americano. Pero la canción melódica del estilo del famosos festival no le hubiera gustado tanto. O quizás si. Eso sería un ema para otro post.

Pues aunque soy de gustos culturales muy anglosajones no tengo ni idea. En las noticias es muy frecuente ver como está nevando en el País Vasco o Castilla león y hay gente tomando el sol en las playas de Benidorm. Supongo que para los periodistas debe ser una gran noticia. El ansiado caribe en la costa norte de Alicante.

Es cierto que Benidorm posee un clima especialmente saludable para el turista vasco o del interior norte español. El casi siempre presente sol, las agradables temperaturas y por que no decirlo su magnífico paseo marítimo. Pero en este mundo tan hecho a mano por los intereses humanos podíamos pensar si este microclima de Benidorm es del todo natural o tiene en parte algo de artificial.

Hace ya unos años cuando era alcalde de Benidorm ese hombre de apellido Zaplana se levantaron bastantes sospechas sobre las bondades naturales de este clima mediterráneo.

Al parecer muchos agricultores denunciaban la presencia de una avioneta que aparecía siempre cuando las condiciones metereológicas eran más propicias para la lluvia. La causa se archivó. Pero entre la gente que necesitaba la lluvia para su negocio se tenía la certeza que estaban manipulando el regimén de precipitaciones para favorecer la industria hotelera.

Muchos de vosotros os preguntareís si este tipo de actividad es posible o es simple ciencia ficción. La respuesta es que si. Resulta bastante sencillo disminuir la posibilidad de precipitación de una zona en concreto. Basta con tener una avioneta cargada con un depósito de sulfuro de plata. El sulfuro de plata actua como una especie de catalizador para la lluvia formando gotas de agua alrededor de cada partícula sulfurosa. Si introducimos mucha cantidad disminuiremos el tamaño de las gotas y estas no alcanzarán el tamaño mínimo para llegar al suelo evaporándose.

Esta técnica en principio fue desarrollada para evitar granizadas pero como veís también sirve para anular las lluvias.

¿ será esta la razón por la que llueve tan poco en Benidorm?... si veís que puede llover, estar al loro de la avioneta. Una foto vale más que mil palabras.

Hace unos días el concurso eurodipity me daba calabazas y aunque de vez en cuando suelo cenar un calabacín troceado y con queso por encima, seguía dándome cosita. Pero acabo de comprobar que aparezco en la primera página de los resultados para todos los países. Sé que esto fluctua. Pero el crack del 29 ya no se volverá a repetir ¿o no?.

Por lo pronto analizo esto como un pequeño triunfo para el contenido. Para el jogo bonito.
